Some Spot News

Brian Messengale, 18, returned home from the park to find the house. A neighbor had already called 911. Messengale said he had only been gone for 20 minutes. West Des Moines firefighter Yance Woody rescued the family's dog, Simba from the smoke. Firefighters were unable to find the family's cat. Messengale's mother, Tracy, returned home while firefighters waited for large fans to reduce the smoke in the house.
On a recent trip home to Des Moines, I covered a spot news event just down the road from my house. No one was injured in the fire.
